Can You Help Us Raise Funds For A Scan?

As well as helping animal welfare organisations with free business support, we have a small number of geriatric animals at our farm where we provide sanctuary care and/or rehoming support.

A Bit of Background…

We have a mini-shetland pony called Jenny who is 24 years old and has not been herself lately. Jenny came to us when her owner, Carol, was dying from cancer. Two friends of Carol (and her beloved husband Gordon), had been sent on a mission to find a future home for Jenny that would take care of her when Carol passed; we became that place. When we agreed to take on Jenny, we made a promise to do everything possible to give her a wonderful home for the rest of her days.

Jenny is a delightful little pony; full of character, friendly, and very sweet natured. She settled in straight away and has been thriving here with her rescue friend Hattie.

What’s Happened?

We noticed a change just after lockdown when Jenny was no longer galloping over to be first to the feed bowls, and we recognised a low grade laminitis. This was odd as we are always careful with our grazing management, and there was no improvement after a month of zero grazing. We wanted to understand what was happening and after two rounds of blood tests we still don’t know what is causing her to be poorly. All the usual test have been undertaken, such as Cushings, EMS etc., plus a full assessment of her internal organs, but all we know is that her insulin levels are extremely high, but for no apparent reason. We therefore are extremely keen to arrange a body scan at Sussex Equine Hospital so that we can get to the root cause of the problem.

How Can You Help?

All veterinary costs are expensive, and a scan could cost around £1800. We will need your help to raise this sum as quickly as possible. If you can help financially, please click on the Donate button below, and please share this fundraiser post far and wide. Thank you so much.

In The Meantime…

We know that grass is full of sugar at this time of year which is a big ‘NO NO’ whilst Jenny’s insulin is uncontrolled. Work is underway, and we are preparing a grassless paddock so that Jenny can enjoy the company of her best friend through the fence line. Just like us humans, horses need company too.
