Natural Bee Hive Workshop 6-7 July 2024

We know just how important wild bees are to our ecosystem. With a severe decline in their natural habitat over recent years, we have recently installed two natural-style bee hives within our rewilding site which have immediately been populated and have thriving colonies already!

Our ambition is to create more bee hives similar to these, to accommodate local bees, and we have arranged a weekend workshop for 6 people to be trained in the creation and installation of these wonderful hives.

Our workshop will be hosted by Matt Somerville, an expert in his field, and will take place at Maple Farm in Alfold, Surrey.

Details of the workshop are as follows:

  • a small group of 6 participants (working in pairs)

  • using traditional gauges to create the hives

  • making and installing the hives

  • learning about wild bees

  • camping overnight on Saturday 6th July if required

  • participants will need to bring protective gloves (to avoid sore hands and blisters!), and wear suitable footwear.

  • This will be a physical activity and is suited to those wishing to make more hives in future to help us to help more wild bees.

  • Start time will be 9.30am, finishing around 5pm on each day. The workshop will be under cover, and will take place regardless of weather conditions.
